Where Collections Lurk!
Posted by maggie

An ongoing topic among collectors this weekend has been whether we've seen the last of the incredible undiscovered-till-present-day collections. What do YOU think?

I think it may depend on regional issues related to the amount of time a family lives in a particular home. I grew up in California (relatively young by neighborhood age standards) but now live on Long Island, New York (very old neighborhoods). One thing I've noticed in comparing friends and family I know from the West Coast to those on the East Coast is that East Coasters tend to stay in the same house for a generation or three. Californians tend to move around a bit. I bring this up because for those not tapped into the "value" of old comics, a move or death in the family is the most likely triggering event to discovering old comics lurking in closets, basements or attics of homes. I would think that the next wave of discoveries would be Silver Age across the country, with any remaining Golden Age collections coming from the East Coast as the remmenants of our Greatest Generation pass away. Just my thoughts. Happy 4th of July.
