Thanks to Hugh Jackman!
Posted by maggie

Free Comic Book Day is receiving one of its largest public relations boosts, thanks to the conjunction of Wolverine in theaters and Hugh Jackman's promotional video. Jackman didn't do it by himself, of course, but he has consistently been a terrific advocate, not only for comic books, but also for comics' creators!

And, speaking of creators, a number of forces clearly had to come together to make that video and provide it circulation. Thanks to all!

My apologies - one more time. This is intended as a comment to your posts on McGill and Poelsma. I couldn't tell if it posted, so I'm trying one more time, "off topic" to your fine compliment to Hugh Jackman.

Again, my thanks to you for your fine site.

Dear Maggie,

I just came across your posts on Mz Augusta, and McGill and Poelsma. I'm a great fan of this beautiful strip, which I came across when I moved to central Louisiana some 40 years ago - and discovered it in the New Orleans Times-Picayune, which my parents received up in Alexandria, LA. I believe the fellow on the left is McGill. I wrote them a fan letter, and received a very nice reply from McGill, who was the writer. I wish I had followed up more dutifully! Let me know if you ever find out more information about them. Both they, the wriing and the art were very cool. :-)

I love your site. Great work.

ps. Is there a book collection of Trog?

ps2. I once met Stanley ! (Little Lulu.) This was at a fabled Boston Comic Con - where I was also treated to dinner by Uncle Carl (Carl Barks), along with about 30 others. I had connections. :-) Just bragging ! :-)

Again, I love your posts.

Apologies for the delay in responding! I envy you your meeting with John Stanley; I think that was the only convention he attended. I did a phone interview with him in the course of preparing my article on "Little Lulu" in the early 1980s, and he was wonderful. It is megagreat that his work is finally being collected.

I believe there were three Flook books, only one of which collected any of the strips I'd received. There was a very early "Rufus"-oriented collection that apparently goes for Big Bucks from collectors, there was a trade paperback collection of (as I recall) four storylines, and there was a book that primarily consisted of text with spot illustrations: disappointing for strip fans.

Apologies, too, for the lack of recent posts. We've been sort of in the midst of adjusting the CBGXtra website, so I've been holding off in hopes of not having to redo things or migrate them or whatever. I have a new cunning plan that I hope to implement shortly. Thanks for persevering!
