Comic-Con comics news: Round #2

The announcements continue to filter out of Comic-Con International: San Diego. A major activity that wraps up Friday’s events is the annual Will Eisner Comics Awards. CBG Senior Editor Maggie Thompson shared her list of the winners on her website, including news of her own “win.”

Here are some of the major announcements from Friday’s panels and events:

 • Image has announced a five-issue series based on the MacGyver television series. Written by Tony Lee and illustrated by Becky Cloonan, MacGyver: Fugitive Gauntlet is scheduled to begin next summer.

 • Following the earlier news of a Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes crossover, IDW has announced a crossover with Archie featuring Kiss. Four issues of guest appearances begin in Archie #627 in November. Written by Alex Segura, the story begins with one of Sabrina’s spells going wrong and summoning monsters to Riverdale. Archie’s friends and the members of Kiss join forces to stop the invasion. An ongoing Kiss series is scheduled to begin from IDW in 2012.

IDW also announced plans for a special hardcover “artist’s edition” of Will Eisner’s Spirit.

Dark Horse announced that its various Star Wars titles are now part of its digital output. More than 50 comics are already available for purchase and download. New and backlist issues will be added to the store weekly.

Oni Press’ supernatural Western The Sixth Gun will be adapted as a live-action series for the SyFy Channel.
