Dark Knight #3 page sets original art record in Heritage Signature Sale

An original page from Batman: The Dark Knight #3 set a record for the highest price paid for a piece of original art in Heritage Comic Auctions‘ May Signature Sale May 5 in Dallas, Texas, selling for $448,125.

Page 10 from the 1980s mini-series by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson is one of only a handful of Dark Knight originals Heritage has offered to date and one of three pages offered in this Signature Sale. The piece, a splash page featuring Batman and Carrie Kelly (the female Robin) swinging high over Gotham City, joins:

Batman: The Dark Knight #4, Page 2, which also sold May 5 for $41,825.

Batman: The Dark Knight #3, Page 24, which sold Feb. 25 for $38,837.50.

Batman: The Dark Knight #3, Page 2, which sold May 5 for $13,145.

Batman: The Dark Knight #4, Page 5, which sold Jan. 21, 2006, for $7,475.

Miller has said of the page, “I’ve always loved that drawing. Danced around my studio like a fool when I drew it.”

Heritage’s Signature Sale continues today.
