Additional information has been released by DC about its upcoming September relaunch of its super-hero line, both in terms of titles and creative teams and its digital plans. CBG has also spoken with retailers for their reactions to this news.
In addition to the already announced Justice League #1 by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee, which starts the relaunch Aug. 31, when it’s the only title shipping aside from Flashpoint #5, DC has released details about 14 more of its planned 52 new titles. No release dates were given.
Wonder Woman #1 is written by Brian Azzarello with art by Cliff Chiang, and is described as “an exciting new series starring the DC Universe’s greatest superheroine.”
Aquaman #1 by Johns and artist Ivan Reis, gives the king of the sea his own title once again.
The Flash #1 speeds into stores with art and story by Brian Buccellato. In the first story arc, the super-speedster faces a villain who can be everywhere at once.
Firestorm, the combination of Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond, returns in The Fury of Firestorm #1, written by Ethan Van Sciver and Gail Simone with art by Yildiray Cinar.
Carter Hall also returns to the DCU in The Savage Hawkman #1 by Tony Daniel and Philip Tan. The release of an alien plague from one of Hall’s archaelogical digs forces the explorer to don his cowl and wings.
Oliver Queen apparently becomes a billionaire playboy fighting crime with his wits and a bow and arrow in Green Arrow #1 by J.T. Krul and artist Dan Jurgens.
Joining Justice League #1 is a revived Justice League International by Jurgens with art by Aaron Lopresti.
Writer Eric Wallace and artist Roger Robinson are producing Mister Terrific #1, featuring “the world’s third-smartest man and most eligible bachelor.”
Krul and artist Freddie Williams II examine how a hero with nearly limitless power can’t save himself in Captain Atom #1.
DC Universe Presents is an anthology title featuring multi-issue story arcs, beginning with a Deadman tale by Paul Jenkins and Bernard Chang.
A quartet of Green Lantern-related #1s begin with the titular Green Lantern #1 by Johns with artists Doug Mahnke and Christian Alamy. The other GL-related titles are Green Lantern Corps #1 by Peter Tomasi, Fernando Pasarin, and Scott Hanna; Green Lantern: The New Guardians #1 by Tony Bedard, Tyler Kirkham, and Batt; and Red Lanterns #1 by Peter Milligan, Ed Benes, and Rob Hunter.
While no details about Green Lantern #1 were released, DC did note that Guy Gardner and John Stewart, along with “an elite Green Lantern strike force” will face galaxy-wide conflicts in Green Lantern Corps #1, while Kyle Rayner will lead a corps composed of the other colors of the Lantern spectrum in The New Guardians #1, and Atrocitus and his Corps will be judge, jury, and executioners in Red Lanterns.
