Happy birthday, King Features!

Nov. 16 marks the 95th anniversary of the incorporation of King Features Syndicate.

Begun in 1915 by William Randolph Hearst and managed by Moses Koenigsberg, King Features followed the earlier Newspaper Feature Service, a Hearst enterprise that offered material from the Hearst papers to smaller regional concerns. The service couldn’t grow to meet demand, leading to the fresh creation of King Features, which could and has for 95 years.

Among King’s offerings are such long-running comic strips as Beetle Bailey, Blondie, Amazing Spider-Man, Dennis the Menace, Family Circus, Mutts, Popeye, and Zits.
