It’s the The Phantom as never seen before: Moonstone has announced The Phantom: Legacy will provide the origin of the character as told by the Ghost Who Walks himself.
The 96-page graphic novel, written by Benjamin Raab and illustrated by Pat Quinn and Art Lyon, will be available in March 2006.

Whew. When I read the subject line, I thought that the Phantom had been bought out by Marvel and was going to get the “Ultimate” treatment.
Good luck to the creators: I think they have a bit of an uphill fight.
Is it just me or are origin stories of established characters with unexplored or murky backgrounds generally unsatisfying?
For instance: To me “Origin” never lived up to its potential in delivering the hiSTORY of Logan (it’s not as bad as a lot of his so-called “development” in the last 15 years, but still…).
Or, in another medium, who believes that Ep. I-III’s origin of Darth Vader was nearly as satisfying, overall, as Ep. IV-VI’s story of the next generation.
I think it has to do with the reader’s own creativity. If you have enough imagination, you come up with at least a general idea of a back-story. (And if you’re a nut like me, you actually write up stories, timelines, etc.). When the created work comes along and doesn’t match up to your own ideas, you feel a bit disappointed.
What do y’all think?
