Michael Avon Oeming has said he plans to get the title he co-created with Brian Michael Bendis, Powers, “back on track.” In his latest newsletter, he said, “Next issue will destroy you. I promise Powers #23 will be remembered with the best issues of Powers ever, or at least most-talked about.”
The series is published under Marvel‘s Icon imprint.

Well, scratch that. With no new scheduling announcement for Powers #26, the June 6 Diamond Dateline has the latest shipping date for #25 set for June 27.
As I’ve written over in the She-Hulk scheduling thread, which you can read here, there’s a train wreck a’coming!

The July 18 Diamond Dateline has these shipping updates for Powers:
#25 is now scheduled to ship Aug. 1.
Vol. 10: Cosmic is scheduled to ship Aug. 15.

Powers #28 is now scheduled to ship Nov. 7.
As for the collections, Powers Encyclopedia Vol. 1 and Powers Vol. 10: Cosmic are still scheduled to ship Oct. 3 and Aug. 15, respectively.

Just as a sidenote, it was resolicited back in October 2007 for December shipping.
What is going on with this? I love “Powers’…one of my favorite comics, but what is with this long delay?Have Bendis and Oeming finally stretched themselves too thin?
As its latest scheduled shipping date drew near this Wednesday, Sept. 12, Powers #26 was rescheduled to Sept. 19.

This week, it’s a two-week slide down the schedule for Powers #26, which moves from Sept. 26 to Oct. 10 as its latest scheduled shipping date. That brings into conflict with Powers #27 which is also scheduled to ship Oct. 10.
Powers Encyclopedia Vol. 1 has been rescheduled from Oct. 3 to Oct. 10.
While Powers #26‘s latest shipping date of Oct. 10 approaches, Powers #27 has moved nearly a month to Nov. 7 with #28 dropping from Nov. 14 to Dec. 5.
The Powers Encyclopedia has moved from Oct. 10 to Nov. 14.
While the Powers Vol. 10 trade paperback shipped Oct. 10, Powers #29, which is in the October issue of Previews for items scheduled to ship in December, has already been rescheduled from its Dec. 12 shipping date to Jan. 3, 2008.
No new updates for the ongoing series this week, but Powers Vol. 11: Secret Identity is now scheduled to ship Nov. 28, while the Powers Encyclopedia is scheduled to ship Dec. 5.
While Powers #26 shipped Oct. 17 (sorry, kinda missed that in all the confusion), #27 has just slipped from Nov. 7 to Nov. 14. However, that still puts it less than a month after #26, so things are looking up, right?
(Of course, it was supposed to ship in June, but we won’t talk about that.)
Whoops, spoke too soon last week. Now Powers #27 is scheduled to ship Nov. 21 with #28 rescheduled to Dec. 19 and #29 rescheduled to Jan. 16, 2008.
The Powers Definitive Collection Vol. 2 hardcover was resolicited in October to ship Jan. 9, 2008.
Both Powers Vol. 11: Secret Identity and Powers Encyclopedia Vol. 1 are now scheduled to ship Dec. 27.
Any word as to whether or not they are considering a bi-monthly or quarterly schedule? I mean officially changing to that. Or does it appear to be their intention to try to put it out on a monthly basis?
With announcements from both Diamond and UPS as to the holiday shipping schedule, it looks as though products originally scheduled to arrive in stores Dec. 27 won’t arrive until Dec. 28. As always, check with your retailer for exact arrival dates.
On the Powers front, things have been quiet for a bit, however Powers HC Vol. 2: Definitive Collection has been rescheduled from Jan. 9 to Jan. 30, 2008.
The latest Diamond Dateline has a new shipping date for Powers #28 of Jan. 4, 2008. And, it looks like I missed it in passing, but Powers #27 did ship Nov. 21.

While no new updates are available on the status of the ongoing title, the latest Diamond Dateline had Powers Encyclopedia Vol. 1 rescheduled from Jan. 9 to Feb. 6.

Powers #29 is now scheduled to ship March 26, while #30 is delayed until April 23.
If you thought you were picking up a copy of Powers #28 today, Feb. 6, try again next week, which is when it’s now scheduled to ship.
The wait continues for Powers #28, which was originally scheduled to ship Feb. 22, 2007 and is now scheduled for almost one year later — Feb. 20, 2008.
Powers #29 is now scheduled to ship April 23 and #30 is scheduled for May 28.
Powers Annual 2008, has been rescheduled from Feb. 27 to March 26.
And, now Powers #28 has passed its long-ago original shipping date of Feb. 22, 2007, with a new shipping date of Feb. 27, 2008.
Since it’s now been more than a month of one-week delays on this issue, we’ll stop updating weekly until it actually makes the confirmed shipping list.
As Professor Fry is wont to say, “Good news, everyone!”
According to Diamond’s confirmed shipping list, Powers #28 shipped to stores March 5.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that Powers Definitive Collection Vol. 2 is delayed from March 26 to April 23.
The delays continue for Powers Encyclopedia as well. Originally scheduled to ship in July 2007, and rescheduled multiple times since (the most recent ship date was March 12), the book is now scheduled to ship March 26.
The latest shipping updates, relayed via Diamond Dateline, have the Powers Encyclopedia now scheduled to ship April 23 and Powers Definitive Collection Vol. 2 HC scheduled to ship May 28.
That now puts the hardcover collection a full 15 months later than its originally rescheduled shipping date of Feb. 28, 2007 and the Encyclopedia only nine months later than its originally solicited July shipping date.
good GRIEF! … reading all of those shipping delays, updates and revisions after the announcement the book would be “back on track” was disheartening, to say the least. Hopefully one day this most awesome title will appear on schedule!
I always enjoyed this book, but the delays are killing that. I’m afraid i’ve gotten used to getting my books on a regular schedule. I’m afraid that delays are becoming the norm even with the larger companies. I do hope that Powers can be worked out. I did pick up #28 yesterday!
Powers Annual 2008 has slipped another week on the schedule from March 26 to April 2.
You’ll have to wait another two weeks for Powers Annual 2008 as it’s now scheduled to ship April 16.
Powers #29, originally scheduled to ship Dec. 12, is now scheduled to ship May 7, while Powers Encyclopedia continues to slip closer and closer to being a year late with its latest scheduled shipping date of May 21. (It was originally scheduled to ship July 5, 2007.)
While we don’t have any updates on the ongoing series, Marvel has announced that Powers Definitive Collection Vol. 2 hardcover is now delayed until July 23.
Checking back to the beginning of this long-running thread, that book was first rescheduled to ship Feb. 28, 2007. It’s now going to be at least 18 months late by the time it does ship.
Powers #29 has slipped another week on the schedule to May 14, while #30 is scheduled for June 11, and the newly solicited #31 has already been rescheduled for July 9.
Is anyone else as amused as I that a thread started over a year ago about getting this title back on track consists of regular updates about shipping delays?
Tony
Time once again for our weekly rescheduling update:
Powers #29 is now scheduled to ship May 28.
Powers Encyclopedia is rescheduled to ship June 4. (It’s getting closer and closer to being a year past its originally solicited shipping date of July 5, 2007.)
Powers #29 is now nearly six months later than its originally solicited shipping date of Dec. 12, 2007. The latest shipping update has the issue scheduled to arrive in stores June 4.
Powers #30 has been rescheduled to June 25 and the recently solicited Powers #31 is rescheduled a second time already to July 23.
Powers #29 is now scheduled for June 11, while #30 is scheduled for July 9, #31 is scheduled for Aug. 13, and #32, which was just solicited for shipping in July, is delayed until Sept. 10.
Powers Encyclopedia is inching ever closer to being a full year late with its latest shipping date of July 2, 2008.
Giving up at #29. The change in format, the unbelievable delays, have finally done me in. The back of the book is a total waste of time for someone who wants art & stories, and then Bendis has the nerve to charge another $1 for the privilege of finding out what’s going on in his and his friends minds. Don’t care!!! Too bad, It was a heck of a ride!
You’ll have to wait another week to give up on Powers #29. It’s now scheduled to ship June 18, officially putting it more than six months beyond its already re-solicited shipping date of Dec. 12, 2007.
And you’ll have to wait yet another two weeks for Powers #29, which is now scheduled to ship July 2.
The hardcover Powers Vol. 2 Def. Coll. is delayed yet another month from July 23 to Aug. 27. That puts it a full 18 months later than its first rescheduled shipping date of Feb. 28, 2007.
This week, every delayed issue of Powers is affected by rescheduling in a trickle-down effect. To wit:
Powers #29 is now scheduled to ship July 9.
This moves #30, which had been scheduled to ship there, to now ship Aug. 13.
That bumps #31 out of that shipping slot, delaying it until Sept. 10, which then affects #32, last scheduled to ship in that spot, and now scheduled to ship Oct. 22.
Oh, and Powers Encylopedia Vol. 1, is now rescheduled to ship Sept. 3. That’s more than a year and a month past its first rescheduled shipping date of Aug. 1, 2007.
OK, in all the hub-bub with convention season, we missed the fact that Powers #29 shipped (yes, you read that right) July 10. Wow! Only four months between issues.
There hasn’t been a shipping update for the series in a few weeks, but now Marvel has announced that Powers HC Vol. 2: Definitive Collection is now scheduled to ship Sept. 24, making it about 10 months late (after its late 2007 resolicitation) at this point.
It’s going to be at least another two weeks before Powers #30 ships. The latest update has it rescheduled from Aug. 13 to Aug. 27.
Powers #30 is now scheduled to ship Sept. 10 bumping #31 to Oct. 22, which is also when Powers HC Vol. 2: Definitive Collection is now scheduled to ship.
That now puts that book at the 11-month mark for lateness from its resolicted shipping date of December 2007 or the 20-month mark from its original rescheduled shipping date if you track back to the earliest posts in this long-running thread.
The trickle-down shipping schedule continues on after that point, with #32, which had most recently been scheduled to ship Oct. 22, now moved to Nov. 26. Even this most recently solicited issue is now going to be at least four months late.
Add another week to Powers #30. It’s now scheduled to ship Sept. 17.
At the recent Diamond Retailers Summit in Las Vegas, Marvel announced that this run of Powers will end with #30.
A new Powers series will begin in late 2009 and will have guaranteed shipping dates.
In the interim, hardcover and trade paperback collections will be offered as well as an Art of Powers book. The series is also in development for television.
That would seem to indicate that all orders for #31 and #32 are canceled.
More updates on the other delayed Powers products are:
Powers Encyclopedia is delayed until Nov. 5.
Powers HC Vol. 2 is rescheduled to Nov. 26, which makes it nearly two years later than its original solicitation date of December 2006.
Powers #30 shipped Sept. 24, and Editor C.B. Cebulski has confirmed that it is the final issue of the series.
A new volume, with a new #1, will begin in 2009.
The Powers HC Vol. 2: Definitive Collection has now passed the two years late mark, with its newest shipping date of Dec. 17.
The Powers Encyclopedia appears to still be on the shipping schedule, but it’s slipped another month to Dec. 3.
Powers Vol. 2 HC continues to age more and more on the shipping schedule as now it’s rescheduled to ship Dec. 24.
Remember, this is the book that was resolicited to ship in December 2007 and was originally supposed to ship in late 2006.
For those hoping for any more Powers releases in 2008, Marvel has now announced that both the Powers Encyclopedia and Powers HC Vol. 2 Definitive Collection are delayed until January 7, 2009.
That makes it nearly 18 months late for the Powers Encyclopedia and nearly 23 months late for Powers HC Vol. 2.
(And I had such hopes of concluding this thread by year’s end. Sigh.)
Forget about closing the thread at the end of the year, now it looks as though at least one item mentioned early in the thread will celebrate its second anniversary of lateness before we wrap things up.
Marvel has announced that Powers Definitive Collection HC Vol. 2 is now scheduled to ship Jan. 21, 2009 and that the October-solicited Powers Vol. 12 TP: Coolest Dead Superheroes is now scheduled to ship Jan. 28, 2009, a month after its original shipping date of Dec. 24, 2008.
Just as a point of reference, we started this thread on Jan. 17, 2007.
Add a few more weeks to that shipping date for Powers Encyclopedia. It’s now scheduled to ship Jan. 28, 2009.
And, we’re easily going to pass the two-year mark on this thread with Powers Encyclopedia and Powers TP Vol. 12: Coolest Dead Superheroes both delayed until Feb. 4, according to the latest shipping updates from Diamond Comic Distributors.
Powers TP Vol. 12: Coolest Dead Superheroes is now delayed until Feb. 18, while Powers Encyclopedia is delayed until March 4.
Strangely enough, on Diamond Comic Distributors’ shipping update list, the old shipping date for Powers Encyclopedia is listed as “n/a.” C’mon, class, we can tell ‘em that the last shipping date was a month earlier, February 4, right?
And that makes the one-shot 20 months late from its originally announced shipping date.
Before anyone makes reference to Camelot 3000‘s lateness record, it should be pointed out that #11 of that series was cover-dated Jul 84, while #12 was cover-dated Apr 85.
Depending on how you look at it, Powers Definitive Collection Vol. 2 HC is either 23 months late after its initially rescheduled shipping date of late February 2007 or more than two years late from its original shipping date.
In any event, it has finally shipped to stores this week.
Powers Vol. 12 TP: Coolest Dead Superheroes is now delayed until March 4, the same shipping date as the long-awaited Powers Encyclopedia.
Add another week to the Powers Vol. 12 TP.
Coolest Dead Superheroes is now delayed until March 11.
Now the shipping dates for the two remaining Powers books have separated again.
Powers TP Vol. 12: Coolest Dead Superheroes is now scheduled to ship March 18, while the long-awaited (it was originally scheduled to ship in July 2007) Powers Encyclopedia is now scheduled to ship April 1.
And Powers Vol. 12 TP did, indeed, ship March 18 as scheduled (and rescheduled and rescheduled). Now to see if Powers Encyclopedia can ship April 1 as it’s currently scheduled.
Apparently there was an April Fool’s joke with that shipping date as the Powers Encyclopedia had already been rescheduled to ship April 29 and is now rescheduled to May 6.
It’s inching ever closer to being two years late from its original solicitation date of July 2007, with this latest shipping update putting it in the 22- to 23-month late category, for those of you continuing to keep score at home.
As an added note, the book, unlike other Powers items, has had its initial orders canceled and resolicited.
Add another month to the shipping schedule for Powers Encyclopedia. It’s now scheduled to ship June 3, making it 23 months late from its original shipping date.
Should we start laying in the second birthday cake?
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday Powers Encylopedia, happy birthday to you.
You’re two years late, you’re two years late …
It’s now been rescheduled to July 1, 2009.
Add yet another month to the shipping date for Powers Encyclopedia. It’s now “scheduled” to ship August 5.
Well, no wonder we haven’t heard of any new shipping dates for the last of the delayed Powers products. They’ve been resolicited for November, when the series starts with a new #1.
According to the Marvel catalog in the latest issue of Diamond’s Previews (which is for items shipping in November 2009), Powers #1 is scheduled to ship Nov. 25 and is going to be monthly.
All previous orders for Powers Encyclopedia have been canceled and the book has been resolicited to ship Nov. 4. Digging back through this long thread (now more than 2.5 years old), shows that the book was originally solicited to ship Feb. 28, 2007, which means, if it hits this particular shipping date, that it will finally be released nearly 33 months after that original solicitation.
Powers: The Definitive Collection Vol. 3 has been resolicited and is now scheduled to ship Nov. 25.
Unfortunately, the cycle may be beginning again. The resolicited edition of Powers Encyclopedia Vol. 1, which was scheduled to ship Nov. 4 is now delayed two weeks to Nov. 18.
Might want to start baking that birthday cake for the book’s three-year anniversary.
While the Powers Encyclopedia (comics’ equivalent of the software industry’s Duke Nukem Forever) continues to be AWOL, both the new Powers #1 and Powers Vol. 3 Definitive Collection shipped Nov. 25, just as they were solicited to do. Congratulations!
Pingback: Powers delays begin again | CBGXtra
The new series of Powers is beginning to face significant delays of its own as you can read here.
