West Plains, Mo., publisher Russ Cochran has been cleaning his warehouse in recent months and has several specials available for comics fans.
During the cleaning, Cochran uncovered a cache of copies of The Adventures of Superman Collecting, a slipcased hardcover published in 1987 and written by Harry Matetsky. The original print run was 2,500 copies and Cochran said that more than 2,000 of those sold initially for $200 each with the remainder being in the warehouse until now. While copies have been spotted online for up to $600, Cochran is offering his copies for $45 each until they’re gone.
In addition, Cochran is offering collectors their choice of any three of his E.C. Archives books (11 are available out of 13 which have been published) for $95, or any 10 for $285. These are the color hardcovers published in the past few years, which originally retailed for $50 each.
Cochran also has a limited number of his E.C. Annuals available. These squarebound comics collect several issues of his E.C. reprints of the 1990s and early 2000s. The specials from this group are:
Tales from the Crypt: Annuals 3, 4, 5 and 6, the last 20 issues, for $20.
The Vault of Horror: Annuals 1 thru 6, the complete 29-issue run, for $30.
The Haunt of Fear: Annuals 1 thru 6, the complete 28-issue run, for $30.
All 16 horror annuals are also available as a group for $70.
He has a similar package deal on the 11 E.C. science fiction annuals for $55. This latter group is a near-complete collection with the exception of Weird Science Annual #2, which is sold out.
A similar situation and special exists for nine of the 10 E.C SuspenStories Annuals (Shock SuspenStories and Crime SuspenStories), which Cochran is offering for $45. Shock SuspenStories Annual #2 is not included in the group due to its sold-out status.
A complete set of E.C. war comics annuals (Two-Fisted Tales and Frontline Combat) is available for $40.
The eight “New Direction” Annuals (M.D., Psychoanalysis, Piracy (two volumes), Valor, Extra!, Aces High, and Impact) are also being offered for $40.
The three Panic Annuals are available for $15.
And the four “Pre-Trend” Crime Annuals (War Against Crime and Crime Patrol) are offered for $20.
For those interested in a nearly complete E.C. collection in annual format, the entire group of comics offered above can be purchased as a set for $200, a savings of nearly $100.
In addition to his many years of E.C. reprints, Cochran has also produced a book on Hopalong Cassidy, whose trade edition, which originally retailed for $75, is being offered for $35.
Cochran is making the same offer on the trade edition of his book Les Paul — In His Own Words.
If that’s not enough, Cochran holds several original art auctions each year, with the latest closing Feb. 10.
