• With spring finally here (we hope to stay, but we did get a late snowfall last week), perhaps those of you handy with tools might want to take on a new project? (Brent Frankenhoff)

What would you like to see in Today’s Comics Guide?
This is the 56th installment of Today’s Comics Guide.

The Magazine

Yesterday’s CLEVELAND PLAIN DEALER had a short piece on the first store where I ever bought back issues of comic books:
http://www.cleveland.com/remembers/index.ssf/2011/04/classic_comics_at_franks_hobby.html
I used to go to Frank’s starting sometime in 1964 or 1965. Years later, I learned that the owner’s name was Joe. His brother Frank was reportedly in prison for some unsavory offense. Joe was too cheap to change the sign, so he just let everyone call him Frank.
My first purchase there was Challengers of the Unknown #1-8 for half a buck each. I hadn’t planned to spend that much money – “Frank” was willing to hold the books for me – but another customer seemed likely to poach the books if I didn’t snap them up on the spot. That customer was Terry Fairbanks who would marry Nora Joyce. I was in their wedding party and it was because of that I met Barbara Kepke, better known as “Sainted Wife Barb” to my CBG readers.
