Noted
• Nominees for the Academy Awards were announced early Tuesday morning and, while super-hero-related movies were totally snubbed in all categories this year, after years of getting nominations in the technical areas, animated films fared little better, although Martin Scorcese’s Hugo did garner 11 nominations. Nominees for Animated Feature are A Cat in Paris, Chico & Rita, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots, and Rango. The Short Film (Animated) nominees are Dimanche/Sunday, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, La Luna, A Morning Stroll, and Wild Life. The Adventures of Tintin captured Music (Original Score) nomination for John Williams and “Man or Muppet” from The Muppets was one of two nominees for Music (Original Song). The other nominee in that category was “Real in Rio” from the animated Rio. (Brent Frankenhoff)
