Noted

• Comics writer and editor Roger Slifer, best-known for his work on Omega Men, which included the co-creation of Lobo, was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in Santa Monica, Calif., Saturday night. Currently in critical condition, Slifer broke his collar bone, shoulder, and several ribs. A portion of his skull was removed to relieve pressure on the brain. Friends are searching for information on the driver of the car that hit him and have posted flyers around the area. The Santa Monica Daily Press has more.

Genndy Tartakovsky will start work on a 3-D animated Popeye film this fall for Sony. The animator previously developed such properties as Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Laboratory for Cartoon Network.

• Archie has hired Jim Sokolowski as Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development. Known as “Ski” to the industry, Sokolowski has previously served as Chief Operating Officer for Marvel and Executive Director of Publishing Operations at DC. In addition, Archie has promoted Harold Buchholz to Executive Director of Publishing and Operations, Paul Kaminski to Executive Director of Editorial, and Alex Segura to Vice President of Publicity and Marketing.

George Pal’s 1960 adaptation of H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine airs at 6 a.m. E.T. on Turner Classic Movies tomorrow morning. It kicks off a whole day of science-fiction films that runs until 7:30 p.m. E.T.
