• Nearly 50,000 fans attempted to attend The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo this past weekend, causing the fire marshal to cap attendance on Saturday, leaving a number of fans unable to get in. The jump in attendance from an anticipated 35,000 was more than likely caused by a massive Star Trek-related promotion.

The Avengers’ domination of foreign film markets in the days before its May 4 U.S. opening has had an effect on another summer blockbuster. Battleship, which opened overseas 17 days ago, has only earned $170.9 million in 50 countries, with this most recent weekend, the first in which it was up against The Avengers, only adding an estimated $22.5 million to the overall total. By contrast, The Avengers has earned $218 million in just six days of release in 39 countries. Universal has said that Battleship cost $209 million to produce.
