(CBG) Hundreds of attendees flooded into the Rock Financial Center in Novi, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, as the Motor City Comic Con opened its doors to advance ticket holders at 1 p.m. ET. CBGXtra.com is on hand, and, as promised, I’m posting periodic updates from the show floor. We’re located almost exactly in the middle of the convention floor, surrounded by comics dealers, publishers, and creators. There’s a lot to see and do and as I’m able to break away from the booth, I’ll see what’s going on around the floor. So far this afternoon, I’ve visited with former Caliber publisher Gary Reed who’s selling various reprint collections of his comics work, many published by Image, including Deadworld, Saint Germaine, and The Red Diaries. He said that many of his books are selling the best on Amazon.com, while adaptations of such literary classics as Frankenstein and Dracula are being carried by libraries, where he’s been doing a number of signings. In addition, Reed is promoting his upcoming anthology, Of Scenes and Stories. As any good comics fan knows, T-shirts are in high demand at any show and my highly unscientific observation of shirts (if it catches my eye, I’ll note it) has already turned up a fairly good one, worn, appropriately enough, by a worker in nuclear medicine. The green shirt bore the message: “How many gamma rays does a guy have to absorb to get superpowers around here?” You'll find additional stories from Day 1 of the show here and here, plus my travelogue here. ____________________________________________________
