UPDATED MARCH 1 From January 1 to February 28, you, the fans, have been able to nominate your favorites of the past year for the Comics Buyer's Guide's annual Fan Awards. Those nominations are now closed. As reported earlier here, for the 24th annual presentation (and after numerous requests), we initiated a nominating round and ballot -- nominations coming exclusively from visitors to CBGXtra.com! Nominators were invited to tell us their favorites from 2005 in 12 categories: Favorite Editor Favorite Writer Favorite Penciller Favorite Inker Favorite Colorist Favorite Letterer Favorite Artist Favorite Comic-Book Story (arc or individal issue) Favorite Comic Book Favorite Original Graphic Novel or Album (no TPB collections) Favorite Character Favorite Publishing Company We’re tabulating the results and will have a final ballot available online shortly. A list of the nominees will appear in CBG #1618. To see who won in the previous 23 years, click here: CBG Fan Awards Archives Even though the nominations are now closed, feel free to post here and discuss the works and creators you're supporting. A little campaigning never hurts!

Like he said. Feel free to hop back in and discuss -- and even list your whole slate of choices as these folks have -- but the tabulation software we're using requires using the link for the nominations to be counted.

Asking for an email address is one thing but when my name and address are required in order to participate I'd rather opt out.

I'm still deciding some categories in which to vote, Maggie. My votes are coming soon thereafter! I miss the old ballot insert in CBG however....

There will still be a printed ballot (as well as an online one) for the final round, from what I understand. This round is for nominations. And sorry, PM, but mailing addresses have been required for all 24 years of the Fan Awards. In an open-voting system, it is one of the identification tools CBG needs to protect the integrity of the balloting. There have been occasions in the past where suspicious ballots have come in, and the staff has phoned voters directly to confirm they submitted the ballots. An e-mail address is insufficient to that purpose, for obvious reasons -- there's no limit to the number of e-mail addresses one voter might have! There's probably a way around everything, but this way tends to cost the would-be ballot-box stuffers more work than it's worth...

Remember, you can vote up until midnight Feb. 28 for your favorites, so if you haven't nominated your favorites of 2005, time's a'wastin'!
