Archie.jpgFollowing its "new look" stories and a peek at Archie and the gang's freshmen year, Archie Comics has announced that it will look into the future with a tale of Archie's engagement and marriage.

Beginning in August, with Archie #600, writer Michael Uslan and artist Stan Goldberg present "Archie Gets Married." In Part 1, the red-headed college graduate proposes, but whether it's to Betty, Veronica, or some other female interest has yet to be revealed. Along the way, readers will also see what the other members of Archie's large cast are doing several years in the future.

Archie #600 is scheduled to ship to comics shops Aug. 19 and newsstands Sept. 8. The 32-page issue retails for $2.50.

Everyone knows it should be Betty.
But it wouldn't be the first time Mr. Andrews had a lapse in judgment!

I've surveyed customers to see who they think Archie Andrews will marry, and almost everyone said Betty, except for the guy who guessed Cheryl Blossum.

My guess would be a wild card; none of the above.

As every Archieologist knows, Archie comics hinge on the eternal triangle of Betty loves Archie, Archie loves Veronica, and Veronica loves herself.

So I figure they'll pitch us a curve ball.

And, now, thanks to the nice folks at Archie, we have the answer of who is being proposed to ...

UPDATE: Apparently, the six-part marriage arc is going to be more of a "What If" scenario with the first three issues exploring what would happen if Archie married Veronica and the second half doing the same with an Archie/Betty marriage.

As Michael said before, it couldn't have been any more than a "What if" scenario, otherwise they should have done a Spider-man like changeover, thereafter...

At first I couldn't quite picture the whole Mephisto/Archie storyline, but then I recently flipped through my copy of "Archie Meets the Punisher" from the 90's and realized anything is possible ("Brand New Riverdale?"). :-)
