Yu-Gi-Oh! GX is an extension of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series, in which some time later Duel Academies have been set up, and in one of them, Jaden, despite belonging to one of the lowest ranked sections of the school, always manages to squeek out a win. With his cards and monsters, he manages to defeat a cheating teacher, a higher ranked student that has lost his connection with his cards, and challenges two of his friends to duels.

I went into this blind, for I haven't read any Yu-Gi-Oh! or watched any except for maybe half an episode I caught a few years back. I could easily follow what was going, because this will definitely written for all ages audience, so that older, more sophisticated readers may find this a little too lightweight to keep their interest, and thus my low rating for it. It wasn't bad, per se, just not very exciting (as compared to, I don't know World War Hulk.) But it would be okay for younger readers and for Yu-Gi-Oh! fans, these manga do not hew that closely to the anime, so they will provide a new reading experience for them, rather than being just a rehash of what they have already seen.

This is a weekly review here on the CBG site, but don’t forgot to check out my other review site, Prospero’s Manga for more reviews.
