By Masaomi Kanzaki Reviewed by Billy Aguiar 2 stars Based on the popular computer game franchise, the Street Fighter franchise is coming up on its 20th anniversary so that there has been a lot of effort in revealing more of the story that has been played out on millions of computer screens. Not that the video game was based on this manga, but the manga expands on aspects of the story, including showing some of the character's histories rather than just telling it. But still this is still a manga about street fighting and pseudo-mystical chi attacks that can melt steel. The fights are short and brutal, rather than long and protracted as in some other manga titles. This is a title that is mostly for the fans of UDON and Street Fighter II, of which UDON appears to be one of the biggest. I did an interview with UDON for Publisher's Weekly a while back, which reveals some of the reasons that they are so into Street Fighter. While there are some additional details of the Street Fighter story shown, there are details that only the hard core fan would really enjoy. The basic story is already pretty well known, I think. And even if it isn't, the storyline is minimal enough, doing just enough to get the characters together to fight. I do appreciate that the fight scenes are rather well drawn, with no obscuring speed lines, which is a plus for the title, but ultimately this title really feels like a love letter to the fans. If you are one of them or sell to them, that is great, but otherwise this is just another fight title. This is a weekly review here on the CBG site, but don’t forgot to check out my other review site, Prospero’s Manga for more reviews. www.capcomcomics.com Vol 1. ISBN: 0-97813-861-9
