There is not a story that cannot be transformed into a comic book, but making some into good comic books is difficult. Code Word: Geronimo tells the true story of the assassination of Osama bin Laden. Writers Captain Dale Dye and Julia Dye studied the mission of Seal Team 6, ordered to lead the raid on bin Laden’s hidden compound. Each minute is captured, panel-by-panel, in a real-life account that honors the men who risked their lives and eventually ended a decades-old manhunt.

While the graphic novel falls under the historical/non-fiction label, the writing team paid strict attention to making it fast-paced and exciting. They put into the afterword what would have been distracting information in the main story; that allows the reader to become fully integrated with the characters and their mission. The art fits the bill with a clean-cut military feel that only enhances the graphic novel. Seal Team 6’s identities are still classified to protect them and their families. This work stands as a tribute to their bravery and success — while it also demonstrates an excellent way to adapt real-world events into a comic-book version.
